A watercolour showing a view of mountains in Lucerne, Switzerland. Two peaks are shown in the foreground, steeply sloping down towards the centre. a further peak is shown behind. Trees are shown at the base of the mountains. Inscribed lower left: [illegible word] Aug: 11. 1868 - Queen Victoria stayed at Pension Wallis, Lucerne from 7 August to 9 September 1868. The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health. On 11 August 1868 the royal party travelled across Lake Lucerne to Flüelen by steamer.
