-
A watercolour showing a view of broom flowers in a Highland landscape near the Cambus o' May Suspension Foot Bridge. Broom shrubs are shown in the foreground to the right, with a Highland hill shown behind. A forest is shown to the left, stretching back into the background. Inscribed below mounted sheet: June 12 68. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 12 June 1868 the Queen and her daughter Princess Louise went to the Cambus o' May Suspension Foot Bridge. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they "tried to sketch the effect of the brilliant broom... which covers the banks like gold. This with the bright fresh green of the trees & the blue hills, is most lovely".
