Master: SKETCHES BY QUEEN VICTORIA I Item: Drawing by Her Most Gracious Majesty when Princess Victoria c. 1832-7
-
A watercolour ascribed to Queen Victoria when Princess Victoria of Kent, showing a seaside view of fishermen. With an accompanying letter of presentation. Three men are shown launching a sailing boat from the shore, with further boats shown on the water in the background. Cliffs are shown to the right. Inscribed on extra mounted sheet: Drawing by Her Most Gracious Majesty when Princess Victoria.
This drawing is documented as being in the possession of the London M.P. Western Wood and was bought upon his death in 1863 by his niece who then presented it to the Royal Household. It is doubtful that the drawing was actually executed by Princeess Victoria, it does not seem to fit with the style of work she was producing or with her competency levels around this time. -
