Highland hills are shown to the left, sloping down towards the centre, with the village below. Inscribed lower left: Ballater from the garden at Birkhall [?June 10 1868]. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 10 June 1868 the Queen visited Birkhall with her daughter Princess Beatrice and the Duchess of Atholl.
