A watercolour showing a view of a Highland landscape from the top of Creag Bhalg (known to Queen Victoria as Craig Valloch). Part of the large Highland hill is shown in the foreground sloping down to the centre from the left. Further hills and mountains are shown in the background. Inscribed below mounted sheet: From Craig Valloch looking towards Braemar. Sept: 25. 1865. While staying in Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 25 September 1865 the Queen visited Glen Quoich and Creag Bhalg with her daughters Princess Alice and Princess Louise and her Daughter-in-Law Princess Alexandra of Wales. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they "rode up the beautiful Glen, only going a short way before we took our luncheon, after which we sat sketching for some time. Then rode on up Craig Valloch at the top of which we got off & stopped again to sketch. The views were too splendid".
