While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 22 October 1866 the Queen rode up Glen Lui to the Derry Lodge with her daughter Princess Louise. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they "sat down close to the Lodge & sketched, but were not very successful". -
