Queen Victoria travelled to Brussels on 1 September 1862, to arrange the betrothal of her eldest son, Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, to Princess Alexandra of Denmark. On the 4 September the Queen travelled to Reinhardsbrunn, where she stayed until 3 October 1862 in the house of her brother-in-law, Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Queen Victoria made many visits to local beauty spots during her stay in Germany.
