A watercolour showing Loch Tay. The Loch is shown to the right with a steep hill shown on the left. Inscribed lower left: Loch Tay. Oct: 3. 1861. Inscribed below pasted down sheet: Loch Tay - Oct: 3. 1866. Queen Victoria made a visit from Balmoral to Dunkeld from 1 to 6 October 1866. On 3 October 1866, the Queen drove around the surrounding area with her fourth daughter, Princess Louise, and the Duchess of Atholl. Queen Victoria records the visit in her journal entry of that day, describing how being at Loch Tay "reminded me of the past & of the row up the Loch in '42 [with Prince Albert], with the pipes playing, & boatmen singing old Gaelic songs."
