A pencil drawing showing a view of the Forest of Glen Tanar. A forest covered hill is shown sloping down to the right. Inscribed lower left: Glen Tanar June 12. 1865. Inscribed below pasted down sheet: Glen Tanar. June 12. 1865. While staying at Balmoral, Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 12 June 1865, the Queen rode through Glen Tanar with her third daughter, Princess Helena. Queen Victoria records the visit in her journal entry of that day describing the glen as "really very beautiful" despite their being "much molested by midges".
