A watercolour showing a view of Loch Muick from the Coyles of Muick. The loch is shown to the upper right, surrounded by steep hills. Inscribed below mounted sheet: Loch Muick from the Choils [sic] Oct: 21. 1865. - While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 21 October 1865, the Queen visited The Coyles of Muick with her daughter Princess Helena. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how "It was very cold, but splendid seeing the hills all round covered with snow, with gleams of sunshine, & distant passing showers".
