A watercolour showing a view of a Highland landscape from Creag Bhalg, known to Queen Victoria as Craig Valloch. Hills are shown in the foreground, sloping down to the centre, with further hills shown behind. A mountain is shown in the background. Inscribed below mounted sheet: From Craig Valloch Sept: 25. 186[5] While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 25 September 1865 the Queen rode up Creag Bhalg with her daughter Princess Alice and daughter-in-law Princess Alexandra of Denmark. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how at the top of Creag Bhalg they "stopped again to sketch. The views were too splendid & the colouring so beautiful".
