A watercolour showing a view of the Dee Valley. Tree tops are shown in the foreground to both the left and right with a view of the valley below shown between. Highland hills are shown in the background against a setting sky. Inscribed below mounted sheet: Looking up the Valley of the Dee from above Mar Lodge Jun 1865. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 7 June 1865 the Queen rode through Glen Quoich. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how she "Came down to Mar Lodge & there sketched the beautiful view looking up the valley of the Dee".
