A watercolour showing a view of the Veste Coburg from a window of Coburg Palace. The castle is shown raised on a hill with a small forest below. Inscribed lower right: From my window. Oct:9. 1860 Last Day. Festǔng. From 22 September to 17 October 1860, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert travelled to Germany with their second daughter Princess Alice to visit their married daughter Victoria, Princess Royal. They stayed in the Palace at Coburg from 25 September to 10 October 1860. Queen Victoria describes how she "Sketched the charming view of the Festung from my window." in her journal entry of 9 October 1860.
