From 22 September to 17 October 1860, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert travelled to Germany, with their second daughter Princess Alice, to visit their married daughter Victoria, Princess Royal. Queen Victoria took a particular interest in ethnography and national costumes and when travelling she regularly sketched peasants in traditional dress. -
