A watercolour showing a mountainous view from the Glas-allt-Shiel. Inscribed lower left: From the -Glassalt- Shiel -Aug: 27. 1860. While staying at Balmoral, Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 27 August 1860, the Queen rode to the Allt-na-Guibhsaich and the onto the Glas-allt with her daughter Princess Alice. Queen Victoria records the day in her journal entry of 27 August 1860, describing how, on arriving at the Glas-allt-Shiel, they "lunched & sketched a little".
