On 1 June 1858, Queen Victoria visited Prince Alfred at Alverbank, where he was staying while completing his naval studies. She describes the visit in her journal entry of that day, how she left Osborne at 8am, "embarking in the "Fairy", & steamed across to Alverbank. Landed on the beach & breakfasted with dear Affie". -
