A watercolour showing a view of a Highland landscape near the Linn of Quoich. A grassy valley is shown in the foreground with two grass-covered hills shown on either side behind. Highland hills are shown in the background, against a setting sky. Inscribed lower left: Sept: 20-55. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 20 September 1855 the queen visited the Linn of Quoich. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how on the way home the setting sun had become "quite splendid, gilding & reddening the sky & hills".
