A pencil drawing showing three soldiers firing a cannon. The cannon is shown pointing to the left, with three soldiers shown standing behind. Inscribed below: June 17 - 1856. Verso: a pencil drawing showing a head study of a soldier, probably the Crimean War hero MacNamara. He is shown facing forward, with a full beard and wearing a plumed helmet. On 16 June 1856 Queen Victoria and her family visited the military camp at Aldershot to watch military manoeuvres. They stayed in the Royal Pavilion overnight and watched field exercises the next day. In her journal entry of 17 June 1856, Queen Victoria describes how she "saw a great deal of pretty maneuvering of Artillery, Cavalry & Infantry, with plenty of firing & cheering".
