A pencil drawing showing a view of a Highland landscape from the top of Morven, Aberdeenshire. Loch Muick is shown in the distance, with Highland hills shown in the foreground. Inscribed below: Loch Muick from the top of Morven. Sept: 14. 1859. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 14 September 1859 the queen rode up Morven with Prince Albert and their daughter Princess Alice. The Royal Family travelled with a large convoy and had lunch on the side of the Corbett. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes the view from the top of Morven as "more magnificent than can be described, — such a sea of mountains, such wonderful lights & colouring. In the extreme distance one could see the blue sea, & actually the ships on it... Loch Muick could also be well seen, & the whole of Dee side. It was really enchanting".
