A watercolour showing a view of a Highland landscape from Craig Guai. Highland hills are shown stretching out into the distance, beneath a cloudy sky. Inscribed lower left: Looking up Deeside from Craig Guai. VR Sept: 12. 1859. - While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 12 September 1859 the queen rode up Craig Guai with her daughter, Princess Alice, and her son, Prince Arthur. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how she "got off [her horse] & sketched" at the top of the craig.
