A watercolour showing a view of a Highland landscape on the Balmoral Estate. A valley is shown in the foreground, dotted with trees. Highland hills are shown behind, with a snow-topped mountain, probably Lochnagar, shown in the background. Inscribed lower left: Oct: 8 1858. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 8 October 1858 the Queen went for a walk near the Abergeldie forests with two of her children. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how "The effect was splendid of the deep snow on Ben Na Bhourd & Loch Nagar, glistening in the sun, with the brilliant blue sky".
