A watercolour showing a view of Loch Callater. The loch can be seen in the foreground with hills shown in the background. Inscribed lower left: Loch Callater Sept: 30/ 54. VR
Queen Victoria describes her visit to Loch Callater in her journal entry of 30 September 1854. Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their two eldest daughters travelled by horseback to Loch Callater after deciding that it was too windy to visit Loch Nagar. They nevertheless enjoyed their day with Queen Victoria describing it as "a lovely spot" and how "while I was sketching Albert amused himself by catching small trout under stones in a stream, with his hands". -
