While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 1 October 1852 the Queen accompanied her husband Prince Albert on a deer stalking trip. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they drove up the Peat Road where the "hills never looked more beautiful, so bright & clear, — Loch Nagar covered with snow, but Ben na Bhourd, still more thickly, which against the deep blue sky, & the dark fury round, had a glorious effect". -
