A pencil drawing showing a view of Blackrock Castle, Cork from the River Lee. The castle is shown on the bank of the river with trees shown to the left. Inscribed lower right: Blackrock Castle on the Lee near Cork Aug: 3 - Queen Victoria visited Ireland for the first time in August 1849. The Queen arrived at the Cove of Cork on 2 August 1849 after sailing from Osborne with Prince Albert and their four eldest children the day before. After anchoring at the Cove of Cork, the Queen and her entourage boarded the Royal Steamer, The Fairy, and sailed up the River Lee towards Cork. In her journal entry of 3 August 1849, Queen Victoria describes how when they got to Blackrock "we stopped to receive a salutation, & a very pretty Address from the poor Fishermen of Blackrock".
