On 13 September 1850, Queen Victoria watched the tenants of Balmoral fishing for Salmon in the River Dee. In her journal entry of that day, the Queen describes how she walked with Prince Albert and some of their older children "by the river side, above the bridge where all our Tenants were assembled with poles & spears, or rather more laestres, for catching salmon...It had a very pretty effect, about 100 men wading through the river, with poles & spears, — much excited."
This drawing was used as a preparatory sketch for RCIN 980055.am. -
