Queen Victoria stayed at Holyroodhouse on 30 August 1850 with her young family, while Prince Albert lay the foundation stone for the National Gallery of Fine Art in Edinburgh (now the Scottish National Gallery). In her journal entry of 30 August 1850, Queen Victoria describes how "After luncheon [I] made a sketch of the Chapel, from our windows".
