A watercolour showing a view of Loch Laggan from Ardverikie House. A fence is shown running along the bank of the loch in the foreground. A toy boat is shown sailing on the loch, in the centre. Trees are shown on the banks to the left and the right and Highland hills are shown in the background. Inscribed below mounted sheet: Loch Laggan from outside the window of Ardverickie [sic] Inscribed lower right: VR del Aug. 23 - 1847. A double pen and ink line border is shown around the edge of the mounted sheet. Queen Victoria visited Scotland with her family during August and September 1847, touring the Western Isles and then staying at Ardverikie Shooting-Lodge. The Queen left Osborne house with Prince Albert and their two eldest children on 11 August 1847 and sailed up the West coast of England and around Wales to Scotland, arriving at Ardverikie on 21 August, where they stayed until 17 September 1847. In her journal entry of 23 August 1847, Queen Victoria describes how she woke to find "a fine morning, which showed the beauty of the view from our windows".
