A watercolour showing a view of Harrow School. The school is shown in silhouette in the background. Trees are shown in the foreground. Inscribed below mounted sheet: Unfinished sketch of Harrow School &c... from the sitting room at the Priory - Stamford [sic] - Middlesex. - Inscribed lower right: VR del: Nov: 17 - 1848 - A double pen and ink line border is shown around the edge of the mounted sheet. Queen Victoria visited Harrow School on 16 November 1848 while staying with the Dowager Queen Adelaide at the nearby Bentley Priory, Stanmore. In her journal entry of 17 November 1848, Queen Victoria describes how "After sketching & writing I went & sat with the dear Queen [Adelaide]" before leaving the Priory for Windsor Castle.
