Inscribed lower right: Balmoral June 5, 6 - 1875.
Princess Elizabeth was the second daughter of Queen Victoria's second daughter, Princess Alice, and her husband Prince Louis of Hesse. She married the Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich of Russia in 1884, making her the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna of Russia. After the assasination of her husband in 1905, she became a Nun and was later murdered by the Bolsheviks. She was cannonized by the Russian Orthodox Church as St. Elizabeth Romanova in 1981. -
