A watercolour showing Queen Victoria's third and fourth children, Princess Alice and Prince Alfred, as children. They are shown full-length with Princess Alice standing behind her younger brother and resting her arms on his shoulders. Prince Alfred is shown holding a ball in one hand. They are both wearing nineteenth-century style children's dresses, tied at the shoulders with ribbon.
Inscribed below: Alfred & Alice. VR begun at Osborne. Sept 1845.
Queen Victoria describes sketching Princess Alice and Prince Alfred in her journal entry of 20 September 1845, possibly referring to this drawing. -
