A pencil drawing showing a bust-length portrait of Victor Emmanuel II, King of Sardinia. He is shown facing left in profile and is dressed in military uniform.
King Victor Emmanuel II of Sardinia visited Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle from 30 November to 6 December 1855 to discuss the ongoing war in the Crimea.
In her journal entry of 30 November 1855, Queen Victoria described her "Royal Ally & Regal Visitor" as "very peculiar looking, not very tall, but broadly built... He has a completely turned up nose, with a projecting jaw & under lip. He wears moustaches curiously joined on to his whiskers, & his hair brushed upwards & away from the face". -
