Princess Victoria stayed at Norris Castle, Isle of Wight, from 1 July 1833 to 5 November 1833. During her stay she made many trips on a Yacht called The Emerald. On 16 September 1833, Princess Victoria travelled to Portsmouth with her mother, The Duchess of Kent, to meet The Queen of Portugal and her step-mother, The Duchess of Braganza. In her journal entry of that day, the young Princess describes how the Duchess of Braganza was "only 21 and is very pleasing. She has beautiful blue eyes, and has a fine tall figure. She has black hair and wore ringlets in front and a plait behind. She was simply dressed in a grey watered moire trimmed with white blonde".
