A pencil drawing showing a woman in theatrical costume standing on the back of a horse, possibly a scene from Andrew Ducrow's Grand Christmas Spectacle. She is shown full-length, facing forward. The horse is shown standing, facing right, with it's reins being held by a man in military inspired theatrical costume. Two further horses are shown from behind, to the right, being ridden by other performers.
Verso: a pencil drawing showing two horses, from behind. The horse on the left is shown being ridden side saddle by a woman in full riding habit.
Andrew Ducrow was a British equestrian circus performer credited with being the originator of horsemanship acts.
On 26 December 1833, Princess Victoria went to Drury Lane Theatre to see a grand Christmas Spectacle called St.George and the Dragon/The Seven Champions of Christendom. In her journal entry of that day, Princess Victoria describes how Ducrow, who was playing St. George, "acted uncommonly well and rode beautifully" and how "The whole is got up in a most splendid and gorgeous manner!" -
