A portrait drawing of HRH Edward, Prince of Wales, almost half-length, turned slightly to the right; wearing full dress uniform with decorations. This is a study for The Heart of the Empire, 6 May 1935 (RCIN 404703, St Bride Foundation, London), a painting commissioned to commemorate the thanksgiving service conducted at St Pauls to mark the Silver Jubilee of King George V. Other studies include portraits of Prince Albert (RCIN 935056), Princess Elizabeth (RCIN 935054), Princess Margaret (RCIN 935055), and the Archbishop of Canterbury (RCIN 935058). A fascinating account of the Prince of Wales's sitting to Salisbury is given in the artist's autobiography, Portrait and Pageant: Kings, Presidents, and People, pp. 140-141, London 1944.
