A study of a young woman, full-length, seated in a high-backed chair, facing right; this is a study for one of twelve panels illustrating key events in the life of Queen Victoria (Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata); signed and dated, lower left. Queen Victoria held her first council in the Red Saloon at Kensington Palace at eleven o'clock on 20 July 1837, following the death of King William IV earlier that morning. This study was probably inspired by Sir David Wilkie's contemporary representation of that event (RCIN 404710).
