A thin flexible-bladed sword with a rounded tip. Engraved on the blade with scenes of figures dancing and playing instruments, as well as hunting scenes. The wooden grip with an eagle-head pommel. Winged eagle and loop knuckle guard.
The leather scabbard is stitched with piteado embroidery, a technique which uses thread from the fibre of the century plant (agave americana) to form traditional patterns inspired by pre-Columbian design, plants and animals. The embroidered initials 'PF' stand for 'Principe Felipe'.Provenance
Presented along with saddle [RCIN 93141] to HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, by the Governor of Veracruz, Rafael Hernández Ochoa, during the outward State Visit to Mexico, 28 February 1975
