Description

A black chalk drawing of Maria Theresa of Austria, wife of Holy Roman Emperor Francis I. A three-quarter length seated portrait inclined slightly to the left, wearing a veil, lace-trimmed dress and a mantle. Her right hand rests upon a table which supports an ornate clock and a book. The background has been decorated with draped and tasselled fabric. The face appears to be unfinished, with very light sketching.
