Girardy was among a number of French artists and craftsmen employed by Henry Holland to work at Carlton House. This drawing and RCIN 927995 may be for decorations intended for the residence: each half of each drawing shows an alternative design for the wall. As the subjects are romantic, the designs may be connected with alterations planned for George's marriage.Provenance
