A watercolour of a scene from Charles Kean's 1859 production of Shakespeare's Henry V with Kean playing the title role. This depicts the moment in Act III scene two where Henry V urges his troops to attack the breached walls of Harfleur. Lundgren appears to have used design drawings for the scenery by Thomas Grieve and a drawing recording the staging by F Lloyds as the basis for this work. These are now in the Victoria and Albert Museum (D1729 and D1730 respectively).

Queen Victoria saw the production four times at the Princess's Theatre. She recorded her reaction in her Journal on 30 March 1859: 'magnificent & as interesting as Richard IInd. Scenery, dresses, decorations, all exceeding even that. Kean's acting of the part of Henry Vth is admirable, so full of spirit & youth... It is a very long play & there was considerable delay in the shifting of scenery.' Of the siege of Harfleur she wrote it was 'wonderfully done, the guns, smoke, flames, storm, repulse & final success are beyond everything fine & exciting'.

This watercolour is mounted in the Theatrical Album, a blue morocco album presented to Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852, into which the queen pasted theatrical watercolours, drawings and photographs until 1861. A small number of further items have been added at the back of the album. Queen Victoria greatly valued the album, of which she wrote to her daughter Victoria 'has been so much admired. I take the g[rea]test. care of it, & do not let it out of my Hands'.
