-
An illustrator's drawing of Prince Albert Victor seated in a small cart, drawn by a pair of bullocks; an unidentified Indian man sits on the shaft of the cart; G.P. Sanderson seated beside the Prince at the back. Sanderson, the superintendent of the Keddahs to the Government of Bengal and Mysore, described how the Prince enjoyed the 'novelty of riding on my small cart which, drawn by a pair of trotting bullocks of the well known Mysore breed, forms an easy and convenient method of getting about the jungles' (J.D. Rees and G.P. Sandserson, Duke of Clarence and Avondale in Southern India, 1891, p.175).
Prince Albert Victor visited India for five months from November 1889. Caton Woodville was there with him, working for the Illustrated London News. The drawing was reproduced in the Graphic Duke of Clarence Supplement, 16 January 1892, 'The Elephant King in a Jungle Waggon at Mysore, India'. -
