A watercolour drawing of HMS Undaunted listing heavily to left, small boats taking people off the ship. Two other large vessels. Signed: Coote Manningham Adjt. General, and inscribed with the title as given, on the washed mount.
One of a group of drawings by Col. Manningham described as 'received from His Majesty Aug. 23rd 1798', see RCIN 917063. Colonel Coote Manningham was an amateur artist who probably received instruction from William Payne. Manningham served as Adjutant General in the French attack on Santo Domingo (present day Dominican Republic and Haiti) in 1795. A drawing of the same subject by W. Anderson is in the collection of Sir Bruce Ingram.Provenance
