Charlotte Canning, Viscountess Canning (1817-61)
Loch Laggan, drawn from the sitting-room at Ardverikie dated 1849
-
A watercolour showing a view looking across the gardens of the house, across the loch, to the hills beyond. The Queen and Prince Albert were lent this shooting-box by the Marquis of Abercorn, and stayed there from 21 August to 17 September 1847. The Queen and Lady Frances Jocelyn, who was in Waiting, sketched together when the weather permitted. Lady Canning made a private visit to Ardverikie in 1849 during which this watercolour and RCIN 920205 were made. Signed and dated 'C C/1849'; the verso is inscribed in a later hand 'Aug/Sept 1847'.
