Charlotte Canning, Viscountess Canning (1817-61)
Brodick Bay c. 1847
-
A watercolour showing a view of the Bay with a mountain on the far side, several small boats and calm waters. The Queen visited the West Coast of Scotland in 1847. Lady Canning was not in Waiting on that trip, but having sketched on Arran on a private visit in September 1846, she had material (now at Harewood House) to work up for the Album. The artist also visited Brodick in 1851 and 1852 but her drawings all seem to relate to the earlier visit. Dated '17 Aug 1847' in a later hand.
