Brodick Bay looking up Glen Rosa c. 1847
Watercolour with white on buff paper | 25.4 x 35.0 cm (whole object) | RCIN 920203
-
A watercolour showing the bay to the right and a road winding along the shore on the left, with figures, one mounted, passing over a small bridge on the far left. The Queen visited the West Coast of Scotland in 1847. Lady Canning was not in Waiting on that trip, but having sketched on Arran on a private visit in September 1846, she had material (now at Harewood House) to work up for the Album. The artist also visited Brodick in 1851 and 1852 but her drawings all seem to relate to the earlier visit. Dated '17 Aug/47' in a later hand.
