John Christian Schetky (1778-1874)
Douglas Bay, Isle of Man c.1847
-
A watercolour showing a view of the bay from the sea, with several boats, and hills in the distance. On her voyage around the west coast of Britain in 1847, Queen Victoria landed for half an hour at 'the town of Douglas, very prettily situated with a picturesque Castle near the Light-house' (Journal, 16 August 1847).
Provenance
From Queen Victoria's Souvenir Album, volume V, folio 31. This and RCIN 920196 were probably acquired by the Queen after the tour of 1847, expressly for the Album.
