Frances Elizabeth Jocelyn, Viscountess Jocelyn (1820-80)
Entrance to Dartmouth Harbour c.1846
-
A watercolour of boats outside the harbour; probably drawn in the early morning. The Queen passed Dartmouth on 20 August 1846 and on 11-12 August 1847; on both occasions the artist was in Waiting. This drawing was probably made on the first visit. Signed 'F. Jocelyn'.
Provenance
From Queen Victoria's Souvenir Album, volume IV, folio 25. The artist's drawings are probably those referred to by the Queen in a letter to her of 20 December 1846: 'I hope some day to have one or 2 of your sketches made on our Tour, - wch. you said at the time you wld. send to me'.
