-
A watercolour of Drayton Manor, near Tamworth, seen from the drive with a large Royal Standard flying on the right. The Queen and Prince Albert stayed with Sir Robert Peel at Drayton Manor from 28 November to 1 December 1843. The house had been completed at the end of 1836 to the designs of Robert Smirke and the grounds laid out by William Gilpin. Queen Victoria described the manor in her journal as 'a fine, simple house in the plain Elizabethan style'.
