Charlotte Augusta Spencer-Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough (1818-50)
RY 'Victoria and Albert I' off Norris Castle c.1843
-
A watercolour of the yacht sailing to the left, off the Isle of Wight, against a lowering sky and accompanied by sailing ships, flying the Royal Standard and red ensign. On 29 August 1843, on her maiden voyage, the royal party sailed along the south coast and landed at East Cowes to visit Norris Castle. Signed 'CF'.
Provenance
From Queen Victoria's Souvenir Album, volume I, folio 43. This and RCIN 920043 were probably presented to the Queen by the artist as a souvenir of the maiden voyage.
