Watercolour with white and gum | 19.7 x 24.0 cm (whole object) | RCIN 920041
-
A watercolour showing Laeken Palace in the background centre, the gardens foreground to background, with a pond in the middle ground. On her first visit to Belgium in September 1843 the Queen and Prince Albert stayed at Laeken with the King and Queen of the Belgians. On 19 September the Queen selected lace, prints and drawings; this and RCIN 920040 may either have been among these, or have been given to her later by her aunt and uncle. Signed 'T. Fourmois'. Dated '19 September 1843' on the mount, the date of the Queen's visit rather than the watercolour.
