Patrick Joseph Hogan (1799-1878)
Queen Victoria's oak, Windsor Forest dated 1845
-
A detailed pen and ink drawing of Queen Victoria's favourite oak tree at Windsor, with a label hanging on the trunk of the tree inscribed 'Queen Victoria's Tree'. Signed and dated bottom right. Queen Victoria, Queen Charlotte and Queen Adelaide each selected a favourite tree at Windsor, and this one was chosen by Queen Victoria shortly after her accession. It would appear that Hogan, who studied landscape drawing at the Royal Academy in Dublin, also made a drawing of Queen Adelaide's oak which was exhibited at the Paris Exposition Universelle.

From Queen Victoria's Souvenir Album, volume I, folio 42.
